GALENA, Kan. — Rose Gertrude Armstrong, 92, died 1:45 a.m. Tuesday morning at a nursing home at Wichita, Kan., after an illness.
Mrs. Armstrong was born Sept. 21, 1902, in Galena. She was a longtime Galena resident, moving to Wichita six years ago. She graduated from Galena High School and taught school briefly. She also worked as a seamstress, and retired from Ramsay's Department Store, Joplin, Mo. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Galena and a charter member of the Mary Wood Sapp Sunday school class, which she served for many years as a teacher.
She married George M. Armstrong on Dec. 24, 1922, at Oswego. He died Feb. 9, 1988.
She is survived by two daughters, Marjorie DeSpain, Wichita, and Lil Martin, Abilene, Kan.; two sister's, LaTressa Moore, Galena, and Lily Casteel, Tulsa; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at United Methodist Church in Galena, with the Rev. Marion Wade officiating. Burial, under direction of Abbott Funeral Home, Baxter Springs, will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Galena.
Family members will serve as pallbearers.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 1 p.. Thursday at the church.
Contributions may be made to United Methodist Church of Galena.
