Robert L. Cochran, 91, of Smethport, PA, died Monday (May 9, 2016) in the Sena Kean Manor, Smethport.
He was born April 8, 1925 in Coryville, a son of Bernard and Iva Dorsett Cochran. On Sept.14, 1945 in Bradford, PA, he married Vera Lucille Austin, who died Feb. 6, 2008.
Mr. Cochran attended schools in Farmers Valley and was employed by Pittsburgh Corning, Port Allegany, PA for 27 years retiring in 1982 as a supervisor.
He was a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving from 1943 to 1945. Mr. Cochran was an aerial gunner flying in a B-24 during World War II. His plane was shot down over Germany and he became a POW in Stalag Luft IV in Gross Tychow, Pomerania, which is now Poland.
He was a member of the American Legion Bucktail Post #138, and the VFW Post #2497, both of Smethport.
He is survived by: one son: Robert (Kathy) E. Cochran of Smethport, PA; one son-in-law: James McGuire of Smethport, PA
Seven grandchildren: Sean, John and Corey Cochran; Scott, Brian and Kevin McGuire, and Wendi Higley
Eight Great-Grand Children: Conor, Ryan and Brody Cochran; Brandon and Emily Higley; Colin, Alyssah and Alaynah McGuire.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Wanda L. McGuire; nine brothers: Lawrence, Lloyd, Leo, Melvin, Walt, Clair, Alfred, Fred and Jay Cochran; two sisters: Nora Booth and Bertha Milliron.
