Florence Galligan age 100, of New Hampton, died Thursday evening at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton of Natural Causes. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday at St. Joesph Catholic Church with the Reverend John Harpel celebrating the mass. Music for the service will be provided by Sister Lorraine Loecher as organist, Jenny Baltes and Pat Felder. The pall will be placed on the casket by her three sons. Lectors are Tom Galligan and Mark Galligan. The offertory gifts will be presented by Lona Sweitzer, Karen Meirick and Paula Laures. Eucharistic ministers are Mary Winter, Colleen Leichtman and Nancy Wegner. Interment will be in Our lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Lawler with grandsons; Wayne Galligan, Dave Galligan, Bob Galligan, Denny Galligan, Ken Galligan and Dick Galligan as pallbearers. Grandchildren are honorary pallbearers.

Florence was born July 30, 1901 in Hustisford, WI, the daughter of Eugene and Lillian Ellicson Underwood. The family moved to New Hampton in 1910 where Florence attended grade school and High School. Florence and Joseph Galligan were married in Lawler at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church on November 4, 1924. The couple farmed northwest of Lawler where their three sons were born and raised. Florence will be remembered for her loved of the outdoors, the large garden she kept while the children were growing up, caring for her yard and going for walks. She did all her canning from her garden and raised flowers as well. She and Joseph enjoyed going to barn dances, playing cards and time with their family and friends. Joseph Galligan died on February 10, 1966. Following his death, Florence sold Avon for many years. In 1992, she moved to New Hampton where she made her home until 1998 when she became a resident of the New Hampton Care Center. Florence was a former member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Lawler and was a member of St Joseph Catholic Church New Hampton, the Jacksonville Historical Society, a 50 year member of the Catholic Daughters of America-Court Mt. Carmel and the Legion Auxiliary.

Florence is survived by her three sons, Duane Galligan, Chuck Galligan (Janet); Jim Galligan (Doris) all of New Hampton. 22 Grandchildren, 39 Great Grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren. One brother Vincent Underwood (Rita) of Mesa, Arizona; Two sisters; Iva Underwood Cutsforth of Waterloo and Marian Underwood Mackey (Walter) of Seattle, Washington. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Joseph, a grandson; Joseph P. Galligan; a great grandson; Jon Galligan; a daughter-in-law, Celine Galligan; Six brothers; Ray, Merle, Lynn, Claude, Edwin and Russell Underwood.
