John Jefferson Davis "Jeff" Hundley
1860 - 1938

Jefferson "Jeff" Davis Hundley was legally named John Jefferson Davis Hundley. This fact was not known until a bible given to him by his mother with an inscription from her stating his full legal name, was found by John D. and Sherrie A. Hundley; among the belongings of his daughter Lucile Hundley after she passed away in 2000.

Though it is believed he was born in Denver, Colorado; it did not become incorporated until a year after his birth (1861). Denver is no longer part of Arapahoe County so it is difficult to pinpoint exactly where his place of birth literally was in November 1860, but it is believed it was in the vicinity of what is now known as Denver. According to a biography of his paternal grandmother, Permelia Emily Wooldridge Hundley, she was in camp with his family at Cherry Creek and decided to stay a little longer in anticipation of his birth. It is said he was the first white baby born in the Denver vicinity!

He was the son of Thomas Augustus Hundley & Margaret Eleanor "Ellen" Harris Hundley. He married Joanna Elizabeth Cluff on 6 March 1883 in Smithville, Graham, Arizona. They had three children; Eleanor Irene, Phoebe Alice and Elijah Jefferson. Joanna died 2 April 1901; and on 17 December 1902 he married Margaret "Maggie" Flittner. Two children came from that marriage; Ralph Conrad and Anne Lucile.

He lived most of his life in Wasatch County, Utah and made his living as a farmer. He passed on at 4:05 a.m., one day after his 78th birthday of cardiac schlerosis/coronary occlusion. He was buried in the Heber City Cemetery.
