John Davis "Jack" Hundley
1931 - 2016
VETERAN

John Davis "Jack" Hundley passed away February 6, 2016, in Orem, Utah, of heart complications. Jack was born July 23, 1931, in Provo, Utah, to Elijah Jefferson and Lola Giles Hundley. As a youth, he lived in Las Vegas, Nevada, Arizona, and Provo, Utah. He graduated from Provo High School in 1949, where he participated in singing, acting, the orchestra, and the track team. He also met his sweetheart, Sherril "Sherrie" Ahlstrom in high school.

Jack enlisted in the United States Air Force where he continued his education and graduated as an electronics technician. He served in the military for four years, including time in Mississippi and one year in Korea. He used his electronics degree as a radar technician and electronics instructor. He continued courting Sherrie through letters and dating while on leave. They were married on March 24, 1954, in the Salt Lake Temple. The couple lived in South Carolina (to complete his military duty), Provo, Utah, and Orem, Utah, in their first home. Here they lived for 35 years and raised their family of five boys. In 1995, they moved to a new home in Lindon, Utah.

Jack completed his electronics education at Brigham Young University and Utah Technical College which he used in his work at Geneva Steel for 41 years. Jack was known for his hard work and received commendations for excellence in his employment.

Jack served faithfully in various positions as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and community. Positions include: elders quorum presidency, high priests group leadership, Sunday School, and various Scouting positions. He was a faithful home teacher for 55 years. He also used his beautiful tenor voice in every ward choir and as a soloist. Jack gave hours of service in genealogical indexing, and volunteering at Primary Children's Hospital and American Fork Hospital.

Jack had many loves and hobbies. He enjoyed singing with the Utah Valley Barbershop quartet, reading, and being with his family. He loved working outdoors in his garden, golfing, hiking, skiing (a love he shared with his sons), and family trips. He loved backpacking and river rafting in the Grand Canyon for pleasure and as a tour guide.

No matter what Jack was involved in, he believed in doing his best. His family and friends appreciate his generous and loving nature.

John is survived by his loving wife, Sherrie; sons: Eric (Kerri), Paul (Annie), Dale, Steven (Tonya), and foster daughter, Oriel Tootsie (Hillis); 24 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters-in-law: Virginia Hundley, Vera Hundley, and Mignon Gallier (Monroe); and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, David; his parents; his brothers: Robert G. Hundley (Lenore), Richard E. Hundley (Erma), Don J. Hundley (Virginia), and William G. Hundley (Vera); grandson, Daniel Jordan Hundley; and great-granddaughter, Maylie McKenzie Dumas.
