Sister Mary Francis Sharbel, P.C.P.A., (Maurine Akers), a cloistered Poor Clare of Perpetual Adoration, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at Our Lady of the Angels Monastery in Hanceville, Alabama. Visitation will be held at Our Lady of the Angels Monastery - Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament on Tuesday, September 11th from 10:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m., and on Wednesday, September 12th from 7:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be at the Shrine on Wednesday, September 12th at 10:00 a.m., followed by entombment in the lower crypt church. "Maurine" was born to Maurice and Ann Akers in Chattanooga, TN on April 19, 1946 and baptized at Ss. Peter & Paul's Church on June 23, 1946. Sister entered Our Lady of the Angels Monastery in Irondale, AL on November 13, 1976 and made her Solemn Profession on November 4, 1984. In the community, she generously served in the mailroom and as bookkeeper and librarian. In her 36 years of religious life, she maintained a missionary spirit, constantly offering prayers for intentions all over the world. Sister is survived by her brother, Vernon Akers and his wife, Margaret. Hanceville Funeral Home
