Stuart Popp was born in 1892. According to his parents' wills he was named William Stuart Popp. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in July 1918 as Stuart W. Popp, "for the duration of war" after being drafted. He was single and had worked as a shoe cutter. He married Leona Zettwoch in 1919. Stuart suffered a serious head injury and spent much of the remainder of his life in and out of the Veterans Hospital. this led to removal of part of his skull and partial blindness. Stuart left three children, fifteen grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
