Leona was born the youngest of eight girls. She grew up in Carondelet in the middle of several sisters and many nieces and nephews. In 1919 she married Stuart Popp and they had three children. Her husband was injured and was only able to work occasionally. Leona worked most of her life. Her grandchildren remember fondly her Christmas surprises called "Grandma's Grandbag" and her granddaughters often accompanied her to the Muni. Damn Yankees was one of her favorite. She is fondly remembered by her many grandchildren.
