Sarah Marie (Hendrickson) Swenson was born on April 28, 1856 in Province of Dalarna, Sweden and died on September 22, 1925 at the home of her daughter in Boone (city), Boone Co., Iowa. She married (1) Carl Johan Swenson in 1871 and nine children were born between the years 1874 and 1893 with four of them dying in infancy. The youngest was born just one month after Carl's death in 1893 and lived for two months. Maria, Johanna, Hilma, Carl, and Benjamin lived to maturity. Sarah married (2) Charles Engleen but after his death she took back the name Swanson/Swenson and lived with her daughter Hilma Ahlin in Boone for thirteen years before her death. She was tenderly cared for by her daughter in her year of very poor health before her death. Her funeral was at Swede Valley Lutheran church and performed by Rev. Peterson. She is buried with her husband and her four infants: Anna C., Carl A., Hilda M., and Enfrid.
