Car Plunges Over Grade Killing Two
Mrs. Charlotte Neep, 49, and her son Charles died in the hospital here Sunday as the result of injuries received when their car plunged nearly 300 feet over a precipice on the Forest Hill Road opposite the Mountain Quarries.
A second son, Grover Neep, 17, escaped with bruises and lacerations. The Accident occurred late Satuurday afternoon after Mrs. Neep and Charles had driven to CCC Camp Bradley near Spring Garden to get Grover who was enrolled there.
As they were driving down the American River Grade on the return home. Charles is reported to have lost control of his machine while rounding a sharp curve and the car plunged over a steep cliff.
As it catapulted down the bank Grover was thrown out, falling clear of the wreck. Mrs. Neep was hurled out about half way down, and Charles was also thrown out with terriffic force just before the car crashed into a tree at the bottom of the embankment.
Mrs. Neep and Charles were both knocked unconscious, but Grover managed to make his way to the construction camp of A. Tiechart and sons at the North Fork Dam where aid was obtained and an ambulance summoned from Auburn.
C.A. Gordon of Hislops Chapel with the aid of a number of others managed to carry the injured woman and her son to the road where the ambulance was waiting.
Mrs. Neep was found at a point approximately 250 feet below the level of the road and the boy about 100 feet further down.
At the hospital it was discovered that both Mrs. Neep and her son had suffered fractured skulls and internal injuries. Mrs. Neep passed away at 10:00 Sunday morning and Charles shortly after noon.
Survivors include the husband in the Rail Road Yards in Roseville; two other sons, William Neep Jr. and Lyle Neep, both of Roseville, and Charles wife Marjorie Neep who has been visiting in Canada for the past two weeks.
Charles was also employed in the Southern Pacific Shops and had been married for the past two years.
A double funeral was scheduled to be held today at 2:00 p.m. from the Lambert Funeral Parlors in Roseville, followed by Internment in the Roseville Cemetery.
Coroner Francis West, who has been investigating the accident, states there will be no inquest as the driver of the car is dead. An Examination of the wrecked car disclosed the fact that the brakes were in very bad condition.
