John L. Coody, born in Nowata, OK, May 27, 1911, died at home February 10, 2000. He grew up in Tulsa, played football at Tulsa Central High and was named "All American". At Kansas University he was captain of the freshman football team before transferring to Tulsa University. At Tulsa University, Ada Robinson, distinguished with Bruce Goff for creation of the Boston Avenue Church, recognized John's unique talent. She introduced him to modeling and woodcarving. Examples of his beautiful work exist in Arkansas, Texas and Oklahoma. John was an inventor as well as an artist. He created and patented oil industry equipment, which included furnaces and benders that eliminated wrinkles in pipelines and coiled pipe. He was a very gifted man. John is survived by his wife, Frances, whom he remarried after 30 years. Also surviving are children of another marriage, son, John A. Coody; daughter, Delores A. Ginn; 4 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild, all of Texas. Service will be held at 12 Noon, Memorial Park Chapel, Wednesday, February 16.
