Charley E. Hardesty, 62, a Cashmere resident, died Sunday afternoon, July 24, 1988, at home, following a lengthy illness.
He was born Dec. 16, 1925, at Joplin, Mo., where he was raised and attended school, graduating from Joplin High School in 1942. He served in the 82nd Airborne Division during World War II and received the Bronze Star among other medals, seeing action in the Battle of the Bulge. After his discharge he lived in Joplin until moving to Hanford in 1948. He worked in the construction of several dams including Rocky Reach, Wells Dam and during retirement build a miniature Western town in Cashmere. He married Lois N. Cox on Feb. 26, 1965, at Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, and they lived in Cashmere since that time. Mr. Hardesty was a member of the Carpenters Union Local 2205.
Surviving are wife, Lois, at home; two sons, John Hocking and Kelly McFall, both of Cashmere; two daughters, Bonnie Drescher, Whidbey Island, and Leyla Warren, Black Forest, and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son in 1985.
Funeral services were held Wednesday morning, July 27, at the Cashmere Cemetery with Art Cote of the Cashmere American Legion Post 64 conducting. Gale Slechta sang "Whispering Hope" and Matt Hanson played Taps. Colors were by the Cashmere American Legion Post. The Braun Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
