Coach Fred Franks age 76 of Guin, AL died Thursday, May 29, 2008 at his residence.

Born in Winfield, AL. He is the Son of the late Frelon Monroe and Pearlie Ethel Sandlin Franks. Fred was a Veteran of the Korean War having served in the US Army and was a member of the Guin First Baptist Church.

He was a graduate of Winfield High School, East Mississippi Junior College and the University of Georgia. He also received a MA from the University of Alabama. He spent his teaching career in Dekalb County, Georgia where he coached basketball and other sports and taught Business Education at Cross Keys High School, Peachtree High School and Henderson High School. He was a member of the Atlanta Tip Off Club and a Charter Member of the Dekalb County Tip Off Club. Fred was inducted to the Marion County Sports Hall of Fame in 1996 and the East Mississippi Junior College Sports Hall of Fame in 2006.

He is survived by his Wife, Grace Helen White Franks of Guin, AL, A Son, Lee Barton ( Katherine) Franks of Sugar Hill, GA, A Grandson Kyle Bennett Franks, A Brother, K. Venthal Franks of Winfield, AL, A host of Nieces and Nephews and Special Friends, The Bennett Family of Atlanta.

He was also preceded in death by a Son, John Britt Franks and 9 Sisters and Brothers.

Services held Sunday, June 1, 2008 at 2:00 PM from the Guin First Baptist Church with burial in the Winfield City Cemetery. Bro. Scott Stokes and Bro. Randy Wright officiating.

Visitation will be Sunday from 12:30 pm until 2:00 pm at the church.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of Northwest Alabama, P.O. Box 1216 Winfield, AL 35594.
