Christopher Shane "Chris" Altebaumer, age 26, Joplin, passed away at 12:02 a.m. Thursday, April 10, 2003, at Cox South Medical Center, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Mr. Altebaumer was born Jan. 27, 1977 in Tulsa, Okla. to Leo Altebaumer and Donna Oleman Altebaumer and had lived in Joplin the past 19 years, moving from Miami, Okla. Chris was a 1995 graduate of Joplin High School. He served five years in the United States Navy and was a 2nd Class Petty Officer Warfare Specialist on the USS George Washington. He worked in construction and loved to play soccer. He was Catholic and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Miami, Okla.

In addition to his parents, survivors include a daughter, Olivia Parish, Frisco, Texas; a sister, Erica Altebaumer, Webb City; maternal grandmother, Madalyn Oleman, Seneca; paternal grandmother, Belle Altebaumer, Miami, Okla.; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and other extended family members and friends.

Chris was preceded in death by a sister, Amanda Altebaumer, in 1982.

Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Miami, Okla., with Fr. Gregg Elliott, celebrant. Interment will follow at G.A.R. Cemetery, Miami. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Parker Mortuary Chapel.

Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
