Margaret Elizabeth "Peggy" Hyatt was born in Brooke Co., VA (now WV) in 1782 to Hezekiah Sr. and his wife Esther (Willison) Hyatt, one of nine children .

She was reared in the backwoods country of what is now Fayette County, PA, and Brooke County, WV. She had no opportunity for formal schooling, thus could not write, nor probably read. She signed deeds and other documents with her mark. Nevertheless, she was a typical pioneer mother, bright, vigorous, industrious. Her entire life was spent on the frontier; perhaps her eldest 2 or 3 children were born in an Indian village, or very closely thereby.

It is interesting to observe that all names of the family to and including this generation were given only one Christian or first name(except Mary Ann, which is really a compound single name). All 10 of their children grew to adulthood, married, and had families.

Peggy married Benjamin Bunn in Wellsburg, Brooke Co., VA (now WV) on August 16, 1804. In 1809 the family moved to the wilderness of Ohio in Ashland County, where her husband was a blacksmith. In 1838, they along with most of their children and a number of other families moved west to Lawrence County, Illinois. Here they established new homes. Peggy passed away on September 20, 1843.
