GALESBURG - Rodney Abernethy,

65, of Galesburg, died at 3:42 a.m. Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
He was born April 17, 1951, in Galesburg, the son of Ted and Vivian E. Shelman Abernethy. He married Carol A. Carmack on August 5, 1984, in Galesburg.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Carol; a sister, Connie L. Abernethy of Galesburg; sister-in-law, Karen; brothers-in-law, Steve, Larry (Terry), and Eddie; and his beloved cat, Beaner. He was preceded in death by his parents and his other beloved cat, Missy.
Rodney worked at Butler Manufacturing Company for 33 years until their closure. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1969. In his youth, he was a member of First Christian Church. Rodney was an avid movie fan and maintained a vast collection. He was a member of the N.R.A.
Cremation will be accorded. Graveside memorial services will be 11 a.m. Monday, March 6, 2017 in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. There will be no visitation. Rodney was an organ doner. Memorial contributions in Rodney’s name may be made to the Knox County Humane Society.
