Titanic disaster victim. Before her journey on the Titanic, Catherine had previously been a maid for two elderly ladies. Originally booked to sail on the White Star Liner 'Cymric' to join her sister in the United States, but due to the coal strike, she became a passenger in third class on Titanic. Her half sister Margaret was a cook in Boston, Massachusetts, and saved her money to buy Catherine a ticket to join her. Catherine died when Titanic sank April 15, 1912 after striking an iceberg. Her body was recovered, and she was forwarded to her sister in Boston for burial. Catherine's parents openly blamed Margaret for her death, and refused to see her when she returned to Ireland for a Christmas visit. Catherine originally did not have a headstone, but the Titanic International Society provided her with a headstone in 2010 to honor her.
