David Buford Cloninger, 76, died of respiratory failure Sunday at his home.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Elon Baptist Church, where he was a member, with burial in Elon Cemetery near here. Halls Funeral Home has charge.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Memphis. He had been a prisoner of war during World War II and was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Mr. Cloninger, the husband of Mary Faye Ashmore Cloninger, also leaves two daughters, Rebecca Taylor Smith and Cindy Faye Martin, both of Memphis; a son, David B. Cloninger, Jr. of Dyersburg; a brother, Otis Cloninger of Clarksdale, Miss., and four grandchildren.
