Charles Lee Gunter, 74 year old employee of the Sun Sand company at Thayer, died at 7:15 this morning at his home in Danese after a short illness. Born in Patrick County, Va. in 1875, Mr. Gunter had spent his entire lifetime in this section. He was a member of the Dan River Primitive Baptist Church. His wife preceded him in death in 1941. Survivors include the following children: Edgar Gunter of Meadows of Dan, Va., Mrs. Lucy Bragg of Hinton, Mrs. Etta Wright of Thayer, J. T and John L. Gunter and Mrs. Nannie Vandall of Sandstone. Other survivors are five sisters, Mrs. G.A. Thurman of Sandstone and Mrs. Ellis Crewes, Mrs. Lillie Williams, Mrs. Cora Joyce and Mrs. Josie Thomas of Stuart Va.; and three brothers, J.A. and J.C. Gunter of Sandstone and G.B. Gunter of Henry, Va.; twenty seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Funeral services under the direction of the E.M. Meadows Funeral Home will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Gunter family cemetery at Sandstone by the Rev. Eugene Nichols of Sophia.
