Evelyn Iris Barkley, 76, passed away on April 6, 2013 in her residence. Iris was the daughter of the late Gordon S. and Thelma B. Bright. She was also preceded in death by a son, James R. Woods, and three brothers, A. Emerson Bright, Jack L. Bright, and Gordon S. Bright, Jr.
Iris was retired from Civil Service, where she worked for the Department of Defense out of Norfolk.
She is survived by a daughter, Dawn Michelle, a brother, Marvin T. "Boogie" Bright of Norfolk, two sisters, Marlene S. Bennett of Washington, NC, and Addie B. Chalk of Colerain, NC, five grandchildren, Travis, Amanda, Michele, Tabetha, and Amy, and four great grandchildren, William, Mathew, Drew, and Raven.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday April 9, in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday at 12 Noon in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk. Online condolences may be made to the family at hdoliver.com.
