After the death of his father Brittain Clayton, who died before Mar 1799, in Stokes County, NC, Charles removed to Bath County, Kentucky.
Served in the War of 1812 under Capt Menifee Co 2nd Regmt KY Mounted Volunteer Militia in Bath County, KY. Received bounty land for his service.
Married Dorothy Barnes on 7 Dec 1814, in Bath County, Kentucky.

Obviously, family had headstone resurfaced with correct dates. Several articles in Owingsville Outlook mention Lou Ragland AFTER death date on her original headstone of 4 March 1903.
Her headstone looked like it had been refinished & her previous death date of 4 May 1903 corrected to 4 Mar 1906. Her household items were sold in Farmers, Owingsville Outlook 5 Apr 1906, P 4. Death date of 3 Mar 1906 in Owingsville Outlook, Bath Co, KY.
