Fred was the youngest of 4 children born to Henry and Anna Hahn: (in order) Nell Louise, Harry Henry, Herbert Louis, and Frederick Carl.Fred spend his entire working career employed by Hahn Roofing Company, which was founded by the his father, John Henry Hahn. Upon Henry's death in 1958, Fred's brother, Harry Henry Hahn, Sr., took over as President of Hahn Roofing and Fred was Vice President. Harry died three years later in 1961 and Fred took over as President, with his nephew, Harry Henry Hahn, Jr serving as Vice President.The name of the Company later changed to Hahn Roofing, Heating, and Metal Contractors.Fred held 50% of the shares in the Company, and Harry, Jr. held 25%.Harry's brother, Richard Neal Hahn, owned 25% of the business. He was not employed there but had served as Secretary in earlier years.Fred graduated from API (now Auburn University) and lead the league in the most point scored in a game. This record stood for several years. Ironically, the man who held the record before Fred was his brother Herbert (Hub).Fred was the fund drive leader to purchase the first Siberian Tiger for the Birmingham Zoo in 1950s and donated the tiger to the zoo in the name of Auburn University in 1956. From that point on, his nephews and nieces called him "Uncle Tiger". Fred (via Hahn Roofing and Sheet Metal Company) also constructed the "monkey houses" that sat on "monkey island" in the Birmingham Zoo for over 50 years.
