Theresa Mattheis Wudel was born Nov. 11 1870 in Mannsburg Bessarabia South Russia. She was the daughter of August Mattheis and Regina Lutz. The family migrated to the United States in 1876,they landed in New York and traveled by train as far as Yankton, then Dakota Territory. They went by oxen to homestead north of Olivet, SD building a sod house and barn and began farming.
She married David Wudel Sr on Feb 23 1892 at Menno SD and they had 5 sons and 3 daughters. Emanuel born 1893, Magalena born 1894 and Olga Louise born 1904 all died as infants. Edward David 1895-1981,Leonard Carl 1898-1974, Elsie Theresa 1901-1993,Herbert Ruben 1909-2002,and Minert Melvin 1912-2003.
