HEATH, Joan Elizabeth

Of Guelph, passed away, at St. Joseph's Hospital (Continuing Care Unit), Guelph, on Wednesday, November 29, 2000. Born in Hamilton, Joan enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force, during W.W. II. She graduated from Osgoode Hall and was called to the Bar in 1948. In 1957, she became the first woman to practice law in Guelph and retired in 1993 from Moon, Heath Barristers and Solicitors. She was a former director of Legal Aid. Joan was a faithful member and elder of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. She was appointed a member of the Ontario Heritage Foundation Board of Directors. She was active in the community: with the Children's Aid Society; Guelph Arts Council; University Womens Club; and the Edward Johnson Chapter of the IODE. Beloved daughter of the late Victor and Marion (Carr) Heath. Joan will be sadly missed by her sister Natalie (Robert) Cowan of California, her brother Douglas of Ottawa, and her nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her brother Roderick. At Joan's written request, a private funeral service was held at the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 206 Norfolk Street, Guelph, on Saturday, December 2, 2000 at 11 a.m. Interment Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Toronto. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Canadian Cancer Society, 4A-214 Speedvale Avenue West, Guelph, Ontario N1H 1C4, would be appreciated.
