Third daughter of Christian H. and Emma L. (Roeger) Bauer, she grew up in the Kensington section of Philadelphia. After she graduated from Kensington All Girls High School she took a position as a secretary and worked until her marriage to Robert E. Hopkins in 1950; they had three children, two boys and one girl. She was preceded in death by her parents and all three sisters; survived by her children and 8 grandchildren.
