The Rev. Donald R. Ambrose, Sr., age 82, of Clinton, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Oct. 19, 2014.

He was born Sept. 30, 1932, in Stratford, Conn., and attended Sacred Heart Catholic School in Bridgeport, Conn. He has been a resident of Anderson County for over 61 years and loved by many. After answering the call to carry the gospel, he pastored First Dutch Valley Baptist Church in Clinton and Island Ford Baptist Church in Rocky Top, and Big Mountain Baptist Church in Oliver Springs. He was a faithful member of Jarnigan Chapel Baptist Church, where he served in years past as Interim Pastor.

He was a United States Army and Navy veteran who served his country proudly in Italy, Scotland, and the Mediterranean, beginning in 1949 and retiring in 1992, with 43 years of service. He then became employed by the City of Oak Ridge, in the Public Works Department, as a supervisor, retiring after 25 years. He was a former member of the Oak Ridge Masonic Lodge and Knoxville Scottish Rites.

Preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Wilma Ambrose; son, Eddie Hensley; parents, Morris and Lillian Hull Ambrose.

Survivors include sons, Donald “Rick” Ambrose, Jr. and wife, Crystal, of Oak Ridge, Kenny Ambrose and wife, Jennifer, of Clinton, the Rev. Tim Ambrose and wife, Carla, of Clinton; grandchildren, Ericka, Alicia, Brooklyn, James, Kourtney, Shawn and Daniel; brothers and sister-in-law, Robert and Janet Ambrose of Stratford, Conn, Pete and Irene Ambrose of Bridgeport, Conn.; sister, Jackie Macisco of New Haven, Conn.; special family friends, Jerry and Tammy Hamby of Wartburg; and a host of extended family and friends.

The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2014, at Jarnigan Chapel Baptist Church and the funeral service followed at 8 p.m., in the church sanctuary with the Rev. Gary Smith and the Rev. Travis Freeman officiating. Graveside service, with full military honors, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2014, at Jarnigan Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.
