Florence "Flo" Chapline – 82 years young, passed away on February 2, 2014 surrounded by her family. Born August 14, 1931 to Alice Margaret Anderson and Daniel O'Connor Grant in Tampa, Florida, she grew up with her two older sisters, Margaret and Dorothy.
Florence moved to Alexandria, Virginia in 1935 and attended George Washington High School, graduating in 1950. She married Calvert (Bill) Clifton Chapline on September 19, 1953 and together they raised five children, Cathy, Rosa, Beth, Dan, and Amy. In 1962 the family moved to Falls Church, Virginia to be close to Bill's parents and later relocated to Stafford county and Manassas, Virginia. Bill passed away in 1983.
Prior to starting a family, Flo worked in the typing pool at the Department of Treasury. After her husband's death, she supported her family by selling furniture at Montgomery Wards. Family was very important to her and she maintained that her greatest accomplishment was her children. Florence had a young spirit and playful nature and provided her children a secure, happy, and loving home filled with magical experiences and many wonderful memories. When grandchildren and great-grandchildren came along, she stepped in to assist and formed close relationships with each child.
Flo's positive out-look on life and happy, friendly nature put others at ease. She loved to dream of possibilities and never took herself too seriously. No matter the adversity, she advised that a cup of tea always made things better. She particularly loved her retirement years and developed a passion for gardening, painting and ceramics. Life was an adventure to her and she loved trying new things from belly dancing to parasailing. She traveled with her sister Margaret to Paris, Alaska, and Amsterdam.
Florence instilled a strong faith in God and a love for His beauty in her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her children Catherine Alice and Allan Seller, Rosa Marie and Walter (Bobby) Johnson, Elizabeth Sue and Baird Eubanks, Daniel Theodore Chapline, Amy Jo and Mark Kriz. Her grandchildren are Joseph Johnson, Catherine (Katie) Johnson, Angela Johnson Perkins, Timothy Johnson, David Eubanks, Rebekah Eubanks Collar, Matthew Eubanks, Christopher Eubanks, Nathan Eubanks, Stephanie Seller, Matthew Karhoff, Joshua Karhoff, and Ashley Karhoff. Florence's great-grandchildren include Sarah Louk, Christina Louk, Emily Louk, Chase Louk, Jazmine Johnson, Savannah Johnson, Lucas Johnson, Rachel Collar, Jacob Collar, Aidan Perkins, Mason Perkins, and Christopher Eubanks.
The family will receive friends Friday, February 7th, 2014 from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 10001 Nokesville Road, Manassas, VA 20110. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 8th, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Living Faith Church, 10266 Battleview Parkway, Manassas, VA 20110 with Pastor J.R. Judd officiating.
Interment will be at a later date in Quantico National Cemetery, Triangle, VA.
