William Richard Erickson, son of Charles and Katherine Erickson, was born in Walshtown township, August 11, 1899. All of his life had been spent there except for four years in Mellet county near Wood. he attended the local school and was mainly engaged in farming. In 1927 he was united in marriage to Alma Thorstensen. To this union were born nine children.

Mr. Erickson passed away Sunday, October 9, 1949, at 10:45 PM at Sacred Heart hospital in Yankton, following an operation. He had not been well since 1937, and at the time of his death was 50 years old. He was baptized and confirmed in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

Surviving are the widow, Alma, and the following children: Raymond, Emma, Erma, Avis, Sanford, Pearl, and Orville, at home: Charles and Roy, at Yankton: and one grandchild. Mrs. Katherine Erickson, his mother; Mrs. Fred Muecke of Yankton and Mrs Wm Madson of Hoxie, Ark., sister: and Lewis Erickson of Yankton, brother, also survive.

The funeral service washed October 12 at 1 o'clock at the Burke funeral home and at 2 o'clock at the Elim Lutheran church, with the Rev. E. A. Bersagel officiating. Interment was at the Geraldson cemetery (Note - In 2018, it is Pleasant Hill cemetery). At the service, hymns were sung by Mrs. H. Christopherson was Mrs. Harry Boe. Pallbearers were A.C. Larsen, Duane Larson, John Ericsson, Melvin Sorenson, Emmett and Milton Nielson.

Those attending from a distance were Ole Thorstense, Tyler, Minn.; Marinus Nelson and family, Hurley; Moody Thorstensen and family, Sioux Falls; Hilma, Edith, and Ethel Thorstense, Sious Falls; and Mrs. Wm. Madsen, Hoxie, Ark.
