Captain Frederick J. Angerer, "Fritz", 91 passed away on September 19, 2009 at home, surrounded by his loving family.
Fritz was born on April 29 1918 a son of the late Alphonso John and Edna Kratzke Angerer. He was born in Girard and had resided there on Mechanic Street, where he eventually built a home in 1946. He is survived by his wife Betty {Brown} Angerer who he married on December 2, 1946 at Ft. Dix Chapel in Ft. Dix, New Jersey; daughters, Penelope Lindsay of Connellsville, Pa. and Colleen Moran and her husband Sean of Irvine, California.
He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Tina M. Angerer, a sister Leona Hall and two brothers, William Angerer in infancy and Ralph Angerer.
Fritz was a decorated Captain in the U.S. Army, serving under General George Patton during WWII, graduating as 2nd Lieutenant from Fort Lee Officers Candidate School in Virginia. During his military career he earned the WWII Victory Medal, Meritorious Service Unit Award, The American Campaign Medal, Monnaie De Paris Medal, Jubilee Medal and three battle stars. He was honorably discharged as Captain on Februrary 8, 1946.
He was a lifelong member of St. John Catholic Church in Girard, a firefighter for the Dobler Hose Fire Company and a member since 1935.
He was in the hardware business for 42 years, and was co-owner of the Girard Hardware 25 years until his retirement.
