Palestine Twp.: Robert was the son of Valentine and Magdalena Shearer. He came to Competine, Wapello County, Iowa with his parents in 1854 and removed to Story County Iowa in about 1865. Me married Jame Bates 30 Nov 1873 in Story Co. IA. To this union were born 8 children viz: (unknown - died young), Mary M. b. 1874, Walter E. b. 1876; Cyrenius M. b. Apr1880, Alta L. b. 1882; Willard L. b. Oct 1885; Floyd H. b. May 1888 and Flossie V. b. 1895; Robert died in Story County Iowa in 1903. He and his wife Jane are buried in the Walnut Grove Cemetery.
