Earl Richard Auker, 77, of Mifflintown, died at 2 a.m. Monday, Aug. 16, 2010, at his home.

Born on July 8, 1933, in Thompsontown, he is a son of the late John L. and Beulah S. (Shelley) Auker. His wife of nearly 57 years, Rena M. (Yoder) Auker, whom he married on Nov. 22, 1953, survives.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Jerry E. Auker and wife Rose, of McAlisterville, Timothy L. Auker and wife Kelly, of Mifflintown, Waneta J. Mast and husband Ron, of Mifflintown, Christina B. Hunsberger and husband David, of Mifflintown, and Gwyn R. Gephart and husband Mike, of Newport; two brothers, R. Lavon Auker and wife Marion, of Mifflintown, John M. Auker and wife Alta, of Thompsontown; one sister, Joann Yoder and husband Ted, of Belleville; and he leaves behind 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Auker was a 1951 graduate of Lancaster Mennonite High School, Lancaster, and earned his Associate's Degree in Agricultural Business from the Altoona Campus of Penn State.

He was a member of the Cedar Grove Brethren in Christ Church, Mifflintown, where he served as Deacon for 15 years, and as a representative to the Mennonite Central Committee.

In earlier life, Earl was a farmer, a loan officer for AgChoice Farm Credit, Lewisburg, and a salesman for Big Valley Sales and Service, Belleville. In 1976, he started Auker-ena, a John Deere Dealership, in Oakland Mills, and after selling the business in 1983, he was employed as a salesman at Leidy Chevrolet-Olds, Mifflintown, was a driver for the Juniata County Head Start, and currently operated Auker Ag, Mifflintown.

Earl enjoyed raising beef cattle, collecting John Deere memorabilia and selling John Deere tractors. He also liked to tell stories and jokes, but he held his greatest joy for spending time with his family.

Funeral services was held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 20, 2010, from the Cedar Grove Brethren in Christ Church, Mifflintown, with Pastor Warren Peachey and the Rev. Steven D. Munger, officiating. Interment followed in the Cedar Grove Cemetery, Mifflintown.

For those who desired, memorial donations in Mr. Auker's memory were made to the Mennonite Central Committee, 21 S. 12th St., P.O. Box 500, Akron, PA 17501-0500.
