She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Wesley Crandall, whom she married May 28, 1950 in Huntington, West Virginia.
Joan is survived by her children: Jan Marie Crandall of Cincinnati, and Dr. David W. (Betsy) Crandall; grandchildren: Lauren, Brant and Hayley Crandall, all of Xenia; sister: Jean (Wayne) George of Huntington, WV; brothers-in-law: Jack (Charlotte) Crandall, of Barboursville, WV, and Robert (Janice) Crandall of Westland, MI; nephews and nieces: Larry and Dough George, Robin (Bob) Checchi, Sheila (Russ) Hahn, Clay (Janet) Crandall, Kyle (Amy) Crandall, Danni (Lori) Crandall, and Jackie Crandall; numerous great nieces and nephews; many loyal friends and co-workers.
Joan had been employed with Xenia City Schools and Greene County Career Center for 33 years. She had been an active member of the Faith Community United Methodist Church since 1956 serving on various committees including: Finance Committee, Dorcas Circle, head of the Family Outreach Committee (which provides meals for bereaved families), Staff-Parish Relations, Kitchen Coordinator, and church choir member at old First Methodist. She was a graduate of East Huntington High School in Huntington, WV and the University of Cincinnati in 1973. She was a member of the Greene County Retired Teachers Association; National Teachers Association; Ohio Vocational Associaton; National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, serving as past Regent and Vice Regent; Greene County Historical Society, serving on the Board 2001-2006; Partners Volunteer with Greene Memorial Hospital; Republican Women; TRIO (Transplant Recipient International Organization); Volunteer for Heart, Cancer and March of Dimes drives.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 11, 2009, at Faith Community United Methodist, 100 Country Club Drive, Xenia, with Pastor Robert McDowell officiating. Interment will follow in Woodland Cemetery, Xenia, The family will receive friends Saturday, May 9th from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Family Outreach Committee or the Common Cup Ministries, c/o Faith Community United Methodist Church.
