John J. Carl aged 80 years, pioneer citizen of Berger, died Monday. Mr. Carl was born at Case, Mo, March 6 1850. Mr. Carl's wife Johanna preceded him in death on November 19, 1929. He was a prosperous and influencial farmer and was a member of the Evangelical Church of Berger.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday at the Evangelical church by Rev. R. H. Kasmann, and burial will be in the St. John cemetery.

Mr. Carl is survived by six children namely: Mrs. Oscar J. Meyer (Julia) of Berger, Mrs Dena Kemper of St. Louis, Mrs William Opfer (Hulda) of Higginsville, Miss Elsia Carl, Ferdinand G. Carl and Mrs. Alvin F. Rohlfing (Daolia) of Berger.

He is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Margaretha Schowengert of Independence, Mrs. Rosa Schowengert of Higginsville, Robert Carl, Mrs. Frank Hoehn(Anna Barbara) of Mr. Vernon, Ferdinand Carl of Independence, Mrs. Louis Schowengert(Marie Louise) of Independence, August Carl of Mr. Vernon and Mrs. Ed Meyer(Wilhelmina) of Independence.
Eighteen grandchildren and one great grand child, besides other near relatives and friends survive him.
