Mrs. Martha Ellington "Ellie" Patterson Bennett, 79 years of age, died Saturday morning at 5 o'clock in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Carl Stingley in Gulfport, MS; it became known here today.
Mrs. Bennett, a resident of Yazoo City, had been visiting her daughter in the Gulf coast city since November and had been ill for the past two months.
She was a native of Tallassee County, AL; but had spent the majority of her life in MS.
She was the widow of Captain J. W. Bennett, who passed away on January 24, 1924.
She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Stingley of Gulfport, MS; Mrs. H. L. Clark of Yazoo City, MS; Miss Martha E. Bennett and Mrs. P. L. Clements, both of Lexington, KY; five sons, John P. Bennett, Charlie Bennett, both of Yazoo City, MS; Louis Bennett, Lambert, J. W. Bennett, Williamsport, KY; and Gibson Bennett, of Clarksdale, MS.
The body will be brought to Yazoo, City, MS; where funeral services will be held Monday morning at 10 o'clock from the First Methodist Church of which she was a member.
The services will be conducted by the pastor, Rev. George M. Thompson assisted by Rev. J. L. Neil, former pastor, and now in charge of the First Methodist Church of Gulfport, MS.
The passing of such an estimable woman is mourned by her many friends throughout this section of the state.
