Florence Elfinda (Noah) Boyce, Noah's Landing, North Lake, Gregory, Michigan, died Thursday afternoon, January 26, 1989 at Heritage Hospital, Taylor, Mi. Florence's family was at her side.
She was the daughter of Perry and Bertha (Wood) Noah, born at her grandparents home in Dexter Township, Michigan on February 7, 1894. Her grandparents, Orange and Lucy (Stark) Noah and William and Lucy (Glenn) Wood, were early Washtenaw County settlers. On May 12, 1915 at North Lake Methodist Church, she married Floyd Spencer Boyce, and he preceded her in death on November 26, 1946. In addition, she was also preceded by a grandson, Peter Worden.
Florence is survived by a son, Ellis Boyce (Elaine)of Chelsea, Mi.; three daughters, Mrs.Dorothy LaSovage (Stanley) of Redford, Mi., Mrs. Ruth Stewart of Dearborn, Mi. who provided her with many years of loving care and Betty Worden (Bill) of Thompsonville, Mi.; 12 grandchildren, including Alan and Floyd whom she raised from infancy following the death of their mother in 1953. In later years, this devotion was reversed and her grandsons provided many years of loving care. Also surviving are 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; a brother Lawrence Noah of Chelsea, Mi., a sister, Mrs. Mildred Knisley (Holton) of Chelsea; and several nieces and nephews.
Florence was North Lake United Methodist Church's oldest member and a direct descendent of its founders, Charles and John Glenn. She was a loving Christian woman who's legacy to her family lives on. She was once so renowned for her baking during the Depression that she and her husband opened a bakery and, later, the Snow White Inn, a restaurant on Old US-12. During World War II she worked at Federal Screw Works and had taught in rural Washtenaw County Schools for several years. She was one of North Lake's most avid and successful fishermen. Her home on North Lake was often the center of activity for family and locals who found no generation gap there. Florence's love of games was incredible. She could out-play anyone! Some of the standards were; Dominoes, the card game Author's, and always, Hide the Thimble.
Funeral services were held for Mrs. Boyce on Sunday, January 29, 1989 at North Lake United Methodist Church, with her granddaughter, the Rev. Dr. Diane Vale of United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial followed in the family lot in North Lake Cemetery.
