Cortez Collins was the son of Stanton Pemberton Collins (see Find A Grave link below) and Margaret Barger Collins. Margaret Barger was born in about 1836 in Russell Co., KY. She was the daughter of John Barger and Verlinda Banks. Stanton P. Collins and Margaret Barger were married Oct. 23, 1856 in Russell Co., KY. Margaret died before 1880, probably in KY, burial unknown.

Margaret's sister, Narcissus, married Dr. William Dixon Lair, also buried here. The cemetery was originally on his land.

Cortez was a land surveyor/civil engineer and real estate broker. When Cortez left Kentucky for Texas before 1880, Emerine was too young to marry. When they met again about 30 years later, they were surprised to find each other still unmarried. They were married in Dallas, TX on Jan. 14, 1910. See the following link for more on the story of their courtship and marriage.
