ALVA C. BURGER - Alva C. Burger 71, of Blue Knob died at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, 1994 at Altoona hospital following an extended illness. Mr. Burger retired as a heavy equipment operator from New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co. in 1987 after 43 years of service. He was born March 4, 1921 in Johnstown, the son of Samuel J. and Rebecca M. (Over) Burger. He married Eilene Gray on January 20, 1949 in Winchester, Va. Surviving are his wife, three children, Rick, Judith Daugherty and Donna Stombaugh, all of Blue Knob, seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, Clair of Johnstown. Mr. Burger was a member of Wesleyan Holiness Church, Portage. He was a c-ber for 30 years and was known as "Mr. Jeep". Mr. Burger served as a school director on the Hollidaysburg Area School Board for 12 years and was president of the Blue Knob Community Center for many years. He served with the 9th Air Force division in the European Theater during World War II and received the Bronze Star medal. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Thursday at Liebegott-Fisher Funeral Home, Duncansville and 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Wesleyan Holiness Church, Portage.
BURGER - Services for Alva C. Burger of Blue Knob will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Wesleyan Holiness Church, Portage by the Rev. Bryon G. Myers. Interment at Alto-Rests Park. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Liebegott Funeral Home Inc., Duncansville and 10 a.m. until the time of service, Friday at the church. Preceded in death by a brother, Luther and infant twin brothers, Merle and Earl.
