Obituary for Joseph H. Baker:
JOSEPH H. BAKER DIES THIS MORNING
Joseph H. Baker, a resident of the El Dorado community for 47 years died at his home, four miles south of El Dorado, early this morning. He was 76 years old and had been in ill health for the past two years, the last nine months of which he was bedfast.
Through his long residence here, Mr. Baker had made numerous friends and acquaintances who mourn his passing. He was a retired farmer and stockman and was well known throughout Butler County.
Mr. Baker was born on November 9, 1856, near Rome, N.Y., and previous to coming here in 1886 had resided in New York state. He was married to Miss Mary Eloise Williams at Oneida, N.Y., on October 4, 1884, and she died on November 19, 1926. The El Doradan was a member of the Methodist Church here and before his illness was active in church affairs.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Charles W. Tarrant, of El Dorado; a son, Charles G. Baker, of El Dorado; one sister, Mrs. George Marshall [Markell], of Oneida, N.Y., a half brother, James Baker, of Pierre Point, N.Y.; three half sisters, Mrs. James Allen, of Florence, N.Y., Mrs. Minnie Simpson [Sampson], of Pierre Point, N.Y., and Mrs. Florence Lovejoy, of Camden, N.Y.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the Byrd Funeral Home tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 with Rev. J.W. Abel pastor of the Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be made in West Cemetery.
