Son of Zachariah Austin & Mary Offutt. Came to KY as a young boy with his parents. Received a primative education in Ohio Co & learned the trade of tailor, plied his trade in Hartford for a number of years. Moved to Morgantown in 1831 & married Nancy Wand James that year. He became the 1st county judge for Butler Co & held the position for 8 years. He was also a magistrate in Butler & Ohio Cos. He served in the War of 1812. He & Nancy had 8 known children. He was a Mason.
