Lawrence "Bud" Cowan, 70, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died peacefully Sunday, June 4, 2000, at home. He was born on December 8, 1929, to Esther Belle (Jones) and Charles Dallas Cowan.

"Bud" served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955 and was stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane, WA, where he met his future bride, Claudine Rae Prewitt. They were married on July 9, 1954.

Bud was a member of the Heat & Frost Insulators and Asbestos Union Local 76 from 1948 until 1971.

He started New Mexico Motorcycle Salvage in March 1972 and operated it until he retired in 1996; it continues to be run by family members.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Esther Belle Runner; father, Charles Dallas Cowan; and sister, Ida Mae Walters.

Bud is survived by his wife of 46 years, Claudine Rae (Prewitt); his son, Monty Cowan, both of Albuquerque; daughters: Zoanne Crouch Kabriel of Louisville, CO, Roxanne Collins, Michelle Newlan and husband, Ric, Laura Sandoval and husband, Benny, all of Albuquerque; grandchildren: Jason Crouch, Lucas Crouch, Adam Crouch, Trudy Handley and husband, Ronnie, Mariah Cowan, Nathan Cowan, Jonathan Vallez, Delorianna Sandoval, Maria Sandoval and Christina Sandoval; special aunt, Dorothy Long and husband, Mike; and step-sister, Betty Cowan.

Pallbearers were: Benny Sandoval, Ric Newlan, Rex Breck, Dan Holloway, Jason Crouch and Ronnie Handley.
