William Alexander Allen MD. was born in Monroe Co., MS, 25 Dec 1842. His father moved with him to Texas in April 1852. He was therefore among the old settlers and saw the wonderful development of this country. At the age of 18 he volunteered into the CSA service and served the entire term.

He enlisted 31 Oct 1861 and served with the 10th TX Cavalry, Anderson Whetstone's Company, and was a prisoner at Ft. Delaware in Delaware at the close of the war. He was released on 9 Jun 1865. After the war he returned home. He first married Ann Thompson, to whom one child was born. After her death he married Emma Boudinott, a daughter of Col. W.P. Boudinott of the Cherokee nation. She lived ten years and three children were born. Later he married Mrs. Lizzie Davis 14 Nov 1880 in Van Zandt County. To this union two sons were born. He later married Mrs. Mary Helms and they had three sons. In 1867, he began the practice of medicine under private tutorship and later took lectures in four different schools. He had a wide practice and lived on a 500 acre working farm. It had Bermuda grass, stock, fruit trees, etc. His farm was located 2.5 miles from Silver Lake. He applied for Pension on 11 May 1922. He died on 5 Jan 1926 and was buried at Sand Flat Cemetery.
