Hardy Allen was a son of Nathan N.G. Allen's first marriage to Celia Bloodworth.

Nathan Nelson Graves Allen was born in Edgecombe County, North Carolina, and later moved with his family to Tennessee before settling in Monroe County, Mississippi, where he was one of the county's first Methodist ministers.
In the mid-1820's Nathan N.G. Allen left his wife Celia Bloodworth and their children in Monroe County Mississippi and settled in Nacogdoches, Texas.

There he married a woman of Cherokee descent named Margaret Quinn (29 years his junior) and started a new family. By the mid-1830s the Allens lived near the Old San Antonio Road, west of the Angelina River (six miles east of Alto) in present-day Cherokee County, Texas.
In 1856, Nathan N.G. Allen moved with his wife and most of their children to south Texas. Nathan is believed to have settled, died and been buried near Papalote in Bee County, Texas. He is said to have been 96 years old at the time of his death. His children and grandchildren were well-known among the early Anglo ranchers of Nueces County, Texas.
