Bob excelled in sports and lettered at Dorsey High School. After graduation he was drafted into the Army and served in Korea. Upon his return home he left active duty and finished his time in the reserves. He also married his high school sweetheart, Joyce Kroeger.
Bob went to work for his father-in-law at Kroeger plumbing. Eventually, he owned the Los Angeles based business and was an excellent plumber. Bob and Joyce had a son, Tom, and a daughter, Susan (Zen). He was involved in Kiwanis and coached youth football and baseball. That was his true passion.
Bob was divorced after 21 years of marriage, he remarried and divorced again. He was not to marry a third time. He was a long time resident of California. Living in Los Angeles, Palos Verdes Estates, Torrance, Redondo Beach, and Lake Elsinore. He lived near Phoenix during his second marriage but returned to Southern California after his second divorce.
Dad passed away after a lengthy battle with prostate cancer. He was a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. We had a military honors ceremony at the cemetery not long after his passing and it was lovely. The bugler and the soldiers and honor guard were just splendid. The gun salute was a nice loud ending. His medals are resting with his folded flag, in my home.
~~~ Update:
Dad's youngest brother Richard (Rick) left this world on November 9th 2009 after a battle with cancer. If there is a God ... then this family is whole again. If that is really true then it makes me very happy. I miss Uncle Rick. I miss my dad. I miss Gma and Gpa. My life is richer for them being in it.
