Baxter Springs Citizen-Monday Feb 22, 1937-Fred Hill Dies at Home Here-Fred B. Hill, well known Baxter Springs businessman, died about __ o’clock yesterday morning at the home, 539 Washington after an illness of several weeks. He was __ years old. (article is in very poor condition) Although he had been in poor health for sometime, death came as a shock to members of his family and to a wide circle of friends. Surviving relatives are his wife, one daughter, Miss Pauline Hill who is a first grade teacher at the Lincoln school and one son, Jack, a student at the junior high school. A sister, Mrs. Fannie Bluhm of Holden, Missouri also survives. Funeral services were held this morning at 10:30 o’clock at the home with the Rev. Richard J. Dunken in charge. Mrs. Harry We__er sang “In the Garden” and the Presbyterian choir sang “The Old Rugged Cross.” The Lincoln school was dismissed during the funeral this morning. Pallbearers were E.H. Parrish, Lloyd Archibald, Van Cananaugh, Powers Browning, Harry Hartley and Kenneth Trimble. The body was taken to Kansas City for cremation. Mr. Hill was born June 2, 1877 in Holden, Missouri. He was married in 1903 to Odette Paul of Holden and the couple later moved to Purcell, Missouri, where Mr. Hill managed a barber shop. They ten returned to Holden for a time and then moved to Webb City. From Webb City, the Hills moved to Baxter Springs about twenty years ago, and have lived there continuously except for two years they lived in Pittsburg and Joplin. Since living in Baxter Springs, Mr. Hill has been manager of a barber shop. He formerly had a shop on East Eleventh street and later moved to 1122 Military where he operated a shop until his last illness. Mr. Hill was a member of the Baxter Springs Masonic lodge. Out of town relatives who were here yesterday were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Caldwell, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Roach and son Billy and Merl Paul, all of Holden.
