ATTERHOLT, another veteran of the civil war, died at his home of West Walnut Street Monday night after nearly three years of suffering from paralysis. He never recovered from the first attack, and successive slight strokes gradually rendered him more helpless. He was unconscious from Wednesday last until the time of his death. Mr. Atterholt was a life-long resident of Center Township, and his father before him was a life-long resident of Columbiana County, having been born and reared in the vicinity of Dungannon. The subject of this sketch was born on a farm two miles south of this city March 10, 1842, a son of MR. and MRS. HENRY ATTERHOLT, his father and mother having located there shortly before. On August 9, 1864, Mr. Atterholt was united in marriage with MISS MARTHA MAY MORROW, who survives him. They lived on the homestead farm until about four years ago, when they moved to this city. During the civil war, Mr. Atterholt served in two commands. He first enlisted here May 29, 1862, in Co. F, 87th O. V. I., for three months, and during this service was made a prisoner with his regiment at Harper's Ferry, Virginia. On August 20, 1864, he enlisted here in Co. D, 176th O. V. I., under Captain John A. Myers, the regiment as part of the Twentieth army corps participating in the battle of Nashville, Tenn. The regiment was mustered out June 14, 1865, after the close of the war. Besides his wife, the following children survive him: MRS. E. R. RIDDLE, matron of the county infirmary, and MRS. JESSIE BAKER, who is employed there; MRS. MARY HUSTON, south of town; CHARLES ATTERHOLT, of Youngstown, and SINA ATTERHOLT at home. He is also survived by a brother and sister, SINA ATTERHOLT and MRS. MARTHA VANFOSSAN, both of Youngstown, and a half brother, JOHN ATTERHOLT, of the Soldiers' Home at Sandusky. Mr. Atterholt had been a member of the Christian Church for many years. His pastor, Rev. C. M. Yocum, will officiate at the funeral, which will be held at the house Thursday afternoon at 1 o'clock. Starr Post No. 138, G. A. R., of which he was a member, will attend in a body and will have charge of the burial service at the grave in the city cemetery.
