My cousin Joe was a native and life-long resident of Clay County. Joe was the son of the late William and Bertha Parker Blankenship. He was a veteran of World War II proudly serving in the United States Army in the Pacific Theatre. Joe was a retired carpenter and farmer, and attended the Tusquittee Church of God. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Muriel Doyle Blankenship; a daughter, Patricia Stamey and her husband, Sam of Hayesville; three sons, Henry Blankenship and his wife, Glenda of Calamet, WA, William Howard Blankenship, and Charles Blankenship and his wife, Shirlee all of Hayesville; two sisters, Josephine Gibson, and Laura Faye Hall, both of Hayesville; and 11 grandchildren and five great grandchildren adn a great great grandson. Joe was laid to rest on July 9, 2004 in the Union Hill Cemetery with full Military honors. Joe was a very loving and giving person and was well liked by all who knew him.
