Fred was the second of seven children born to Arthur Linn and Elizabeth "Lizzie" Laverna (VanBuskirk) Addison. His elder sister was Winnie who died at the age of 10 or 11. His younger siblings were William Walter, Charles "Charley" Jack, Ethel (m. Edward Henck), Arley, and Bertha Francis (m. Unknown Fritz, Vernon McGilland Stacy and Charles Ferris) Addison. He had had two half sisters from his mother's first marriage Mary Misemer and Ora Hill.
Note: His WWI draft card states that he was born in Collyer, Kansas. His WWII draft card states he was born in Osborne County. According to census records the family did not move to Collyer until later - between 1900 and 1905.
