Bio by Cheryl Seiss Louie (granddaughter). Hung Yuen Chun was born in Hawaii in 1894. In 1898 he went with his father to live in his father's Nam Long Village of Cha In in Zhongshan, Guangdong, China. Later, when he was 17 or 18, he met a woman who was also a U.S. citizen and he asked her to marry him. His plan was to settle on land acquired by his father in Honolulu County, Hawaii. In December 1912 he returned to Hawaii only to discover that the land had been sold by his uncle. However, he settled in Honolulu, getting a job as a plumber/pipefitter for the U.S. Navy in Pearl Harbor. He sent for his wife, Mew King Soon Chun, in 1917. They remained in Honolulu where they raised their nine children: Esther Kam Pung, Charles Yew Kwon, Samuel Yew Wong, Nicholas Yew Fong, Ellen Kam Chee, Wilfred Yew Wai, Eleanor Kam Mew, Verna Kam Lin and Clifford Yew Tim Chun.
