Mrs. Achterkirchen's roots were in Deep Gap, NC but she lived many years in Washington DC. In her later years she resided in Greensboro, NC and then Reidsville, where she passed away on Friday, Dec. 17, 2010 at Annie Penn Hospital.
Mrs. Achterkirchen was a homemaker. She enjoyed crafting. She was talented and loved making crochet blankets and other projects. She was especially well known for her beautiful Spanish dolls. Many relatives still have dolls from her collection that will live on for decades. Personally I remember her love of raw onions. We used to eat them together all the time! She will be sorely missed.
She is survived by one daughter, Priscilla Sue Storm of Lexington Park, MD.; three grandchildren (Ralph, Barry and Suzi); four great-grandchildren (Amanda, Eric, Timmy and Harley Sue); and two great-great-grandchildren (Ashley and Austin).
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Frederick Achterkirchen in 1972. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Ruby Rosalie Shirley Simmons in 1976 and her son, Carl Freeman Shirley in 2006.
Additionally she was also preceded in death by her infant grand daughter, Marie N Shirley in 1950, her infant grand son, Carl Freeman Shirley, Jr. in 1951, her infant grand daughter Evelyn Sue Shirley in 1954 and her infant grand daughter Crystal Hope Isenberg in 1964.
