Mrs. Margie Greene Hamby, 78, of Blowing Rock, formerly of Deep Gap, died Thursday, Aug. 26.
She was born in Watauga County, June 12, 1904, a daughter of the late Copna and Sally Triplett Greene. She was the widow of Dewey Hamby and a member of Stoney Fork Baptist Church.
Mrs. Hamby is survived by two sons, Dallas Hamby and Rexford Hamby, both of Lenoir; one daughter, Mrs. Bill Speight, of Owensboro, Ky.; three brothers, Reid Greene of Deep Gap, Ralph Greene of Triplett and Buster Greene of Taylorsville; one sister, Mrs. Pearl Hendrix of Hayes; the stepmother, Mrs. Dannie Norris Greene of Deep Gap; six half-sisters, Mrs. Mary Achterkirchen of Hayes, Mrs. Doris Smith of Lenoir, Mrs. Dick Jordan and Mrs. Erney Greene, both of Deep Gap, Mrs. Bill Payne of Belmont and Mrs. Vaughn Smith of High Point; and by 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services were conducted Saturday afternoon at Mount View Baptist Church in Deep Gap. Officiating were the Rev. Roscoe Greene and the Rev. Gary Watson. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Miller Funeral Home in Lenoir was in charge of arrangements.
